Prof. Birgitta Weltermann appointed member of the Standing Committee on Vaccination
Bonn, February 22, 2024 – The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) has reappointed the members of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) at the Robert Koch Institute as part of its regular rotation. Prof. Birgitta Weltermann from the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is one of a total of 19 people on the committee.
The appointed experts contribute their expertise from various disciplines in science and research, public health services, and private medical practices. Prof. Weltermann has been head of the Institute for Family Medicine at the UKB since 2018 and is also a practicing family physician.
She conducts research on vaccination management in family practices and has developed the KeepCoool online learning program for healthcare professionals.
“It is an honor for me to be part of this independent expert committee and thus contribute to protecting the population from preventable diseases,” says Prof. Weltermann. STIKO develops vaccination recommendations that take into account both the individual benefits for vaccinated individuals and the benefits for the entire population.
The newly appointed STIKO will hold its constituent meeting on March 12 and 13, 2024.
