Family doctor practices – shaping the future

Family medicine is extremely important for the healthcare of the population. Teaching, continuing education, and research in family practices are therefore becoming increasingly important. We therefore particularly promote the qualification of family practices in order to innovatively shape these socially relevant topics for the present and the future. Our Bonn-Siegen-Eifel practice network currently comprises more than 160 teaching practices.

Curricular courses take place in general practice clinics in the form of block internships in general medicine, clinical electives in general medicine, and practical training in general medicine. Qualified specialists in general medicine and internal medicine supervise medical students on a one-to-one basis in their practices. They work according to the didactic concept of our teaching practice toolbox, which standardizes teaching in the practices. All teaching physicians regularly participate in didactic training courses offered by the institute, where they also learn about and practice using the toolbox.

Our network of family doctor practices conducts research on topics relevant to family medicine. Examples include

The funding measures are financed by funds from the German government's “Health Research” framework program and, among others, the “Future of Work” program (BMBF).

The Bonn-Siegen-Eifel network of family doctors is part of the North Rhine-Westphalia research practice network. More information about the Medizin.NRW cluster can be found here.

Medical assistants (MFA) are consistently involved in our research projects in order to efficiently achieve the best possible quality for each project. Our MFA Academy offers training opportunities for MFAs and medical assistants. The spectrum ranges from courses on lung function testing and a quality circle for MFAs to training courses on conducting clinical studies. You can find more information here.
