Concept and objective
The aim of the structured doctoral program in family medicine is to enable high-quality doctoral theses in general medicine and to systematically provide students and physicians with scientific qualifications. Doctoral theses are an excellent opportunity to learn the methodology, implementation, and presentation of scientific work.
The doctoral program combines seminars, peer learning, and self-study. The goal is to earn a doctorate through publication. Participants are guided through the various phases of the research process in small groups by scientists and physicians at the IHM.

Research process
The doctoral program has a general medical meta-theme that changes annually, under which participants work on their own focus topic.
Meta-theme 2020: “The questions rarely asked”: bio-psycho-social aspects of primary care patient treatment
Meta-topic 2021: “Health literacy among people with hypertension”
Meta-theme 2025: “E-Health and Sustainability in Times of Change”
